Sandhan24.com: The New York City mayoral debate venue turned into a vibrant scene as hundreds of supporters gathered in favor of Andrew Cuomo’s campaign.
The debate took place on Wednesday, October 22, at 4 p.m. at the LaGuardia Performing Arts Center in New York. Outside the venue, a large rally and march were held urging people to vote for Andrew Cuomo. Alongside South Asian and Bangladeshi voters, supporters from many other communities joined the event.
Leading the Bangladeshi community’s campaign efforts weremainstream political and Community Board member Fahad Solaiman, Democratic District Leader Dr. Dilip Nath, singer Rizia Parveen, Haris Patel, community activist Nasrin Ahmed, community leader Nuruzzaman Sardar, Progressive Forum General Secretary Zakir Hossain Bacchu, children’s writer Humayun Karim Dhali, Faisal Aziz, Amzad Hossain Selim, Bidyut Sarkar, and Md. Parvez, among others. Members of the Gujarati, Spanish, and Bangladeshi communities were also present in large numbers.
Community Board member Fahad Solaiman added, “New York City is currently facing crises in public safety, education, housing, and mental health. If Andrew Cuomo is elected, he will restore discipline and modernize the education system.”
Dr. Dilip Nath said, “If Andrew Cuomo becomes the mayor of this troubled city, we will be able to build a civilized, safe, and prosperous New York. His experienced leadership can guide the city in a new direction.”
Prominent Islamic scholar Abdul Aziz stated, “Candidate Zohran has expressed support for policies that promote same-sex and prostitution rights, which are completely against the teachings of Islam. Therefore, we reject Islam-opposing candidate Mamdani and support Andrew Cuomo.”
Attorney Nasrin Ahmed remarked, “For stable leadership in the city’s economy and law and order, there is no alternative to Andrew Cuomo. We must unite and vote for him.”
Community leader Nuruzzaman Sardar said, “If Andrew Cuomo is elected, the safety and well-being of all immigrant communities, including South Asians, will be ensured.”
Finally, Uttom Kumar Shaha, CEO of Progga Foundation, stated, “The future of New York depends on our decision. Together we can build a new, strong, and prosperous New York — and to achieve that, we must elect our preferred candidate, Andrew Cuomo.”

গতকাল ২২ অক্টোবর বুধবার বিকেল ৪টায় নিউইয়র্কের লার্গোডিয়া পারফর্মিং আটর্স সেন্টারে ছিল নিউইয়র্কের মেয়র প্রার্থীদের বিতর্ক অনুষ্ঠান।
এই মিলনায়তনের বাহিরে অ্যান্ড্রু কুয়োমোর পক্ষে ভোট চেয়ে বিশাল শোভাযাত্রা ও সমাবেশ অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। এতে সাউথ এশিয়ান ও বাংলাদেশি কমিউনিটির ভোটার ছাড়াও বিভিন্ন দেশের মানুষ উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
এ সময় বাংলাদেশি কমিউনিটির পক্ষে প্রচারণার নেতৃত্ব দেন ডেমোক্রেটিক ডিস্ট্রিক লিডার ড.দিলীপ নাথ, মূলধারার রাজনীতিক ও কমিউনিটি বোর্ড সদস্য ফাহাদ সোলায়মান, সংগীতশিল্পী রিজিয়া পারভীন, হারিস প্যাটেল, কমিউনিটির সমাজ সেবক নাসরিন আহমেদ, কমিউনিটির নেতা নুরুজ্জামান সরদার, প্রগ্রেসিভ ফোরামের সাধারণ সম্পাদক জাকির হোসেন বাচ্চু, শিশু সাহিত্যিক হুমায়ুন করিব ঢালি, ফয়সল আজিজ, আমজাদ হোসেন সেলিম, বিদ্যুৎ সরকার, মো.পারভেজ প্রমুখ। এছাড়া গুজরাটি, স্পেনিশ সম্প্রদায়সহ বাংলাদেশি কমিউনিটির বহু নেতা-কর্মীও উপস্থিত ছিলেন।
ড. দিলীপ নাথ বলেন,“ অ্যান্ড্রু কুয়োমো সমস্যা জর্জিরিত নিউইয়র্ক শহরের মেয়র হলে আমরা একটি সভ্য, নিরাপদ ও সমৃদ্ধ নিউইয়র্ক গড়ে তুলতে পারব। তাঁর অভিজ্ঞ নেতৃত্বই এই শহরকে নতুন দিক নির্দেশনা দিতে পারবে।”
কমিউনিটি বোর্ড সদস্য ফাহাদ সোলায়মান জানান,“নিউইয়র্ক সিটি বর্তমানে জননিরাপত্তা, শিক্ষা, বাসস্থান ও মানসিক স্বাস্থ্যসহ নানা সংকটে নিমজ্জিত। অ্যান্ড্রু কুয়োমো নির্বাচিত হলে শহরে শৃঙ্খলা ফিরিয়ে আনার পাশাপাশি শিক্ষা ব্যবস্থাকে আধুনিক ও কার্যকর করবেন।”
বিশিষ্ট্য আলেম আব্দুল আজিজ বলেন, জোহরান নির্বাচিত হলে সমকামী ও পতিতা ব্যবসাকে অনুমোদন করবেন। যা পবিত্র ইসলাম ধর্ম কোনক্রমেই অনুমোদন করে না।তাই অ্যান্ড্রু কুয়োমোকে সমর্থন করে ইসলাম ধর্ম বিরোধী মামদানীকে আমরা প্রত্যাক্ষান করেছি।
এটর্নি নাসরিন আহমেদ বলেন “শহরের অর্থনীতি ও আইনশৃঙ্খলায় স্থিতিশীল নেতৃত্বের জন্য অ্যান্ড্রু কুয়োমোর বিকল্প নেই। তাই আমাদের সকলকে ঐক্যবদ্ধভাবে তাঁকে ভোট দিতে হবে।”
কমিউনিটির নেতা নুরুজ্জামান সরদার বলেন, “অ্যান্ড্রু কুয়োমো নির্বাচিত হলে সাউথ এশিয়ানসহ সব অভিবাসীর জন-জীবনের নিরাপত্তা নিশ্চিত হবে।
প্রজ্ঞা ফাউন্ডেশনের সিইও উত্তম কুমার সাহা বলেন,“নিউইয়র্কের ভবিষ্যৎ নির্ভর করছে আমাদের সিদ্ধান্তের উপর। আমরা সবাই মিলে একটি নতুন, শক্তিশালী ও সমৃদ্ধ নিউইয়র্ক গড়ে তুলতে চাই। সেই লক্ষ্য পূরণে আমাদের প্রিয় প্রার্থী অ্যান্ড্রু কুয়োমোকেই নির্বাচিত করতে হবে।
